Writer’s Block Solution #1: Playlists

If you like music and you’re stuck in your writing, try compiling a playlist–either from your music library or a list of radio/Pandora songs–of songs complementing your story’s themes or events. If you’ve already done this, update it after revisions or when you get new music (as needed).

For me, this is a great way to sort through how my characters are evolving and the moods throughout the book. Since I work full time and spend way too much time with family and friends, this makes it a lot easier to pick up the tone where I left off. This playlist, for me, focuses on music with lyrics, so I don’t listen to it when I’m writing. Instead, I play it in the car and use my driving time to plan what I’ll write next.

Happy writing!
