PLANNED CONVENTIONS & SIGHTINGS

Cleveland Concoction 2019

  • Cleveland’s Bring Your Own Genre Convention: By The Fans For the Fans
  • March 1-3, 2019
  • Aurora, OH
  • clevelandconcoction.org

I GET TO SELL BOOKS AT ONE OF MY HOME CONS!

I mean, Concoction is fantastic, whether you’re a first-time con-goer or a con-noisseur. With a strong focus in genre literature, gaming, kids’ programming, and all-around geekdom, Concoction lives up to its slogan of “Your fandom escape on the lake!”

I’m doing panels again this year:

  • Blood and Beyond: Relationships and Partnerships in Genre Fiction
    • Panelists discuss how significant relationships fuel character/plot development in genre fiction. Family, estranged family, adopted parents/guardians, best friends, partners in crime, law enforcement partnerships, and familiars will be discussed. Attention will also be paid to protagonists’ relationships with villains and antiheroes.
    • Featuring Jennifer Blackstream and Rob Howell.
    • I might not speak, but I have it on good authority that Jennifer is an awesome panelist, so you should come anyway.
    • Friday, 8 PM
    • McKinley A
  • NSFW 1.0
    • Sex, violence, and strong language: DO AUTHORS HAVE LIMITS?
    • Featuring Olivia Berrier, Patricia Miller, Tory Gates, Marie Vibbert, and me
    • Friday, 10 PM
    • McKinley B
  • Female Protags: Beyond the Badass
    • Female protagonists have come a long way since the days of being the damsel in distress… Or have they? Guns and martial arts are all well and good, but what about agency? Panelists will discuss what makes a strong female protagonist and the common pitfalls that plague them.
    • Featuring Jennifer Blackstream and stealth panelists KM Herkes, me, and maybe others
    • Saturday, 11 AM
    • Pegasus (Stealth auditoriums for stealth panelists)
  • Author Showcase (Session 4)
    • Ever want to hear an author read their work in their own voice? Listen to Emmy Jackson, JD Blackrose, KM Herkes, Dyrk Ashton, and me read excerpts of our works.
    • Saturday, 2 PM
    • Pegasus
    • Afterwards, follow us to Grant A for autographs!
  • Gender Themes in Science Fiction
    • Scifi has been a tool for exploring gender and orientation.
    • Featuring Megan Mackie, Mary Turzillo, (Doug Farren?), and me
    • Sunday, 11 AM
    • McKinley A
